I knew I wanted to create a piece that expresses the magic of a forest. I can’t include all woodland animals, but I wanted to create a peaceful moment in time, playful and somewhat surreal. Plants are pulled back, almost like a curtain, to reveal young children playing. They’re delighted by summertime and their lanterns at night. I hope this painting illustrates the harmony of nature and a glimpse of what we have to lose, of what future generations have to lose. It’s a romanticized version of the wild. My hope is that someone will treasure this piece and enjoy finding all the little creatures in it.
It’s essential that we support progressive leaders who recognize the importance of dealing with climate change, now. We are so far behind. I’m not perfect, but I know that small incremental changes can make a real difference. It’s the politicians we vote into office who can implement the larger structural change.
