In 2012, I took two Creating Picture Books classes at SVA with Monica, which gave me the confidence to give the publishing world a shot. I'm sloooooowly getting there. My 1st picture book class was with Brian back in 2003. His class was entertaining and thorough. I learned a great deal and although I've continued to make art for kids, I wasn't ready to make a real commitment to getting published. As those who make books for kids know, it's tougher than it looks! It's been fun for me to see my friends succeed and to see Monica continue to expand her career and series of books. Of course, Brian's work has gained much deserved attention and awards, including The Robert F. Sibert Honor and The Caldecott!
Want to read more about the festival? Donna Marie wrote a terrific piece about it on her blog - Writer Side Up Lots of fun pics to see, too!
Princeton is such a charming town. I was happy to get a little lost walking to the festival from the train. Here are a few photos... you can see more on Instagram
Congratulations again to Kristine, Melissa, Monica and Brian! my heroes :)
